Car Break Down

Whether it’s a bump or a bang, know what to do!

Sometimes, we know when a crash is going to happen. You may not have seen the person ahead braking, or you could be blissfully unaware until someone ploughs into the back end of you, either way, a crash is not ideal.

Pull to the side of the road. If you can, pull over to the left side of the road, out of the flow of ongoing traffic. If moving your car isn’t possible, turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers that your vehicle is stopped and could be a hazard.

Call emergency services. Ensure that you, your passengers, and other people involved in the accident are unharmed and uninjured. If anyone is injured, call the emergency services right away.

Collect information. Keep good records of everything that occurred. Write down the time and location, the other driver’s name, license number, insurance company, and contact information. Once the police have arrived and taken statements, ask for a copy of the report and write down the officer’s names.

Call your insurance company. Let your insurance company know that you were in an accident and provide all the specifics of the crash. If you took photos or the scene or a video, send them over to your insurance agent as they may help during the claims process.

Work with the claims adjustor. When filing a claim, many insurers will send an adjuster out to inspect the damage to your vehicle. After this, you’ll receive a settlement offer. Once you pay the deductible, your insurance will cover the rest.
